Abstract: Zoom is cloud meeting company which provides an industry leading desktop web conference system that allows users to meet, share, and collaborate at a distance from their desktops. During this event, we will discuss web conferencing, how to set up meeting spaces, the layout, and best practice for integration. Through hands on activities, we will demonstrate how to use Zoom and give participants a chance to ask question. 

 

Bio: Brad Grabham currently works for The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation as their Academic Design Manager. Before RAK, Brad worked for the University of Colorado Boulder’s Office of Information Technology, where he serves as an Academic Technology Consultant (ATC) within OIT’s Academic Technology Design team. Brad's background is in education. After completing his Bachelor of Science in secondary education from Indiana University, Brad taught social studies & special education for eight years. With a Master of Science in Information Media, with a concentration on instructional design and training, Brad worked for eight years as a technical training coordinator researching and implement emerging technologies.

Basic Outline:

What is Zoom? Discussion of Web Conferencing (20 minutes)
- Computer system requirements & audio conferencing integration
- Installing the Zoom “Plug-In”
- Using external webcams and microphones

Creating a Zoom meeting space (15 minutes)
- Managing permissions
- Layout & overview
- Recording meetings

“Hands on” participation / “How to” demonstrations: (30-60 minutes)
- Host an online meeting space
- Organize the layouts
- Share resources & collect data
- Incorporate Zoom sessions into other web sites, learning management systems, and third party tools
- Publish recordings

Examples / best practices: (10 minutes)
- Examples of how Zoom can be integrated
- Possible uses of Zoom
- Entice participation by fostering a ‘Community of Learners’
