Learning about Teaching #ThroughGlass
Presenter: Dr. Robert (Bud) Talbot
Co-Presenter: Brad Hinson
Organization: University of Colorado Denver
Role: Assistant Professor of Science Education
Track: Research Presentation
Topic: Mobile Technology and Devices
Level: Intermediate
Abstract: Wearable technology such as Google Glass affords the ability to record video from a unique point of view (POV). In this study, we compare video of classroom discussions from two different POV’s: that of the instructor, and that of a camera in the back of the room. In one course, the instructor wore Google Glass during his teaching for the entire semester. Students were also surveyed about their perceptions of technology use in teaching.
Bio: Dr. Talbot is an assistant professor of science education at the University of Colorado Denver. He has always been interested in innovative technology and its potential affordances and limitations. As a former high school physics teacher, Dr. Talbot has experience with integrating technology into the secondary science classroom environment. Now as a university educator, he still works to integrate technology into his teaching, but also researches technology use from a critical perspective. Dr. Talbot is particularly concerned with the costs and benefits of technology integration with respect to increasing the (potentially extraneous) cognitive load on teachers and students.
Description: Other potential uses of Google Glass in teaching and Learning will be discussed as well. Research project information and presentation materials will be available at the project's Google + page (URL below),
