Abstract: It is time to stop fighting cellphone use in the classroom and turn the tables by using them as an aid. Twitter can be a great tool to increase classroom discussion, remind students of upcoming events, conduct research, and keep students, teachers, and parents connected. Come find out some of the great ways that Twitter can be used in the classroom to increase student achievement.

Bio: Eric Tuell is student at the University of Central Florida graduating with a degree in Social Science Education on May, 2. He recently was admitted into the Masters program at UCF for Teacher Leadership with a Social Science focus. Mr. Tuell is passionate about the use of technology in the classroom and during his Internship II at Oviedo High School he was finally able to implement some of his ideas in the classroom. Mr. Tuell has spoke on his subject (Using Twitter in the Classroom Effectively) previously at the 2014 HAPPY Hour Student Showcase at UCF.

Description: Cellphones are becoming more and more prevalent in the classroom and are seen as a distraction most of the time. It is time to turn the tables and use them in a positive manner to increase student achievement. Twitter can be a great tool to increase classroom discussion, remind students of upcoming events, conduct research, and keep students, teachers, and parents connected. Throughout my presentation/demonstration I will provide numerous ways, tips, and suggestions on how to use Twitter in the classroom effectively. Attendees are suggested to bring any device that can connect them to Twitter, although it is not necessary. The presentation will quickly provide an overview of some of the ways that Twitter can be used in the classroom and then there will be time for a demonstration in which attendees can see some of these strategies in action. In my experience in my Internship II at Oviedo High School I not only have seen an increase in classroom discussion, but parents and students like how we can use it as a way to stay connected.
