Presenter: Mark Werner
Co-Presenter: Katherine Allison
Garrett Nicodemus
Organization: University of Colorado Boulder
Role: Associate Director of Academic Technology Strategy and Support
Track: Research Presentation
Topic: Effective Blended Learning Practices
Level: For Mere Mortals
Abstract: Screencasts, or short videos demonstrating and explaining concepts, are useful for flipped classes and online learning. The authors studied chemical engineering students at two universities who viewed screencasts outside of their classes. The authors will present results from matching students' grades with data about students' uses of the screencasts; and from a usability study of several screencasts. Finally, the authors will demonstrate how to produce a screencast and integrate it into a course.
Bio: Mark Werner directs a team of innovative instructional and media designers who solve wicked learning problems with the adoption of information technologies.
